As I mentioned in a previous post, the desserts in Berlin taste way more natural than they do in the States. Since the language barrier complicated things, I couldn’t tell which ingredients made the difference, but you can take my word for it that they’re much less artificial-tasting.
Sweets are lighter in Berlin, the perfect end to a meal. Maybe this is why Europeans are so skinny! Whereas in America, desserts can sometimes be a full-on assault. I personally love all desserts – over-the-top sugary as well as light – so I just used this as an excuse to indulge pretty much every day!
I have to admit, though, I’m such a sugar junkie that I started to miss American sweets. I better get myself to ChikaLicious…and fast!

Caramel cake with fruits

Latte and whole wheat croissant...not really a "dessert" but a sweet treat nonetheless

Apple strudel from an amazing organic bakery

Plum cake from a riverside cafe in the country

Baklava, often a sugar onsalught in the U.S. but perfection in Berlin

Chocolate cream cake and topped with chocolate flakes, pistachio crumble and a profiterole. It actually could've used more sugar, but maybe that's just my sweet tooth talking!

oooo – everything looks amazing….i love the blog – keep it going!
Hey Archie! Hope you are having/had a great time in Berlin- I’m jealous!
I love your blog- I just turned vegetarian myself last month after reading Omnivore’s Dilemma. So far it’s going well but it’s definitely tough to find places that I and meat-obsessed Greg both like…so, even though I don’t live in NYC, I can still appreciate your “whats in it for them” pointers. And actually, since G & I will both be official East-Coasters this fall, maybe I will get to try out some of your recommendations : )
Hi, good post. I have been wondering about this issue,so thanks for posting.
