You think I’d go to Chicago and not have my favorite dessert? Well, not only did I go to the Lincoln Park bakery Sweet Mandy B’s, but I also ventured to a new spot, also in Lincoln Park–Molly’s Cupcakes. Both are adorable: Sweet Mandy B’s has that Magnolia, retro bakery vibe and Molly’s is a kitschy shop with swings for seats!

Cupcakes don’t need much explanation, so before getting onto the visual stimuli, let me just say that if I had to pick between the two, I’d choose Molly’s. The red velvet was super moist and their flavors, some with fillings (i.e. peanut butter nutella, boston cream, cherry tiramisu), are really unique, like this peach cobbler cupcake I got:

Red velvet at Molly's. I'm sorry, but I really like those heart sprinkles.
Sweet Mandy B’s is a little further out in Lincoln Park, close to Depaul University (lucky college kids!). When you walk in, the smell of batter and butter go straight to your nose. Not surprising considering their spread of cupcakes, cookies, cakes, chocolate covered pretzels, brownies and other sugary treats. I’ve always gone around the 3 p.m. hour when school gets out, so it’s alwasy me and a bunch of 6-year-olds gobbling up cupcakes.

They've got mini cupcakes for the non-sweet-tooth people you drag here.

Also hit up Molly’s! YUM. red velvet was delicious– and I ate it THE NEXT DAY. Still crazy moist. Also, the ron bennington was amazing, creamy peanut butter in the center and a crushed butterscotch topping? Yes, please!
