Mari Vanna, Gramercy

I stumbled upon this gorgeous Gramcery resto one afternoon when it had only a soft opening (a.k.a. open for fancy private affairs but not to the public). Its design is straight out of Rachel Ashwell’s shabby chic and the hostess we spoke to was a sweet model-like Russian (don’t they all look like that?). She explained to me that they weren’t open quite yet but she did offer me some interestingly tasty Russian chocolates.

Still, dessert bonding aside, I don’t know if I’ll ever venture to Mari Vanna, which officially opened two nights ago. Its menu could not be more disappointing–for me anyway. It’s Russian, meaning you’ll get borsch, beef stroganoff, braised duck leg and all sorts of other things I’m not interested in. How could something so pretty and so girly be so this not appetizing to me?

Perhaps you adventurous Lettuce Veg readers will try it out. Let me know what you think! I’ll be the one on the outside, with my face pressed up against the glass.
