Banana pudding

This gem to the left is Kingswood’s banana pudding, a dessert I’ve been meaning to try every since I first walked by its glass front windows on W. 10th St. Having now tried it, I think I’ve finally found the gourmet answer to Magnolia’s cult-favorite banana pudding.

The top layer is creamy and peppered with crumbled biscuit pieces and the banana garnish on top is torched slightly, giving it a creme brulée flavor and look. The work of an artist!

The meat-heavy menu—it’s Australian, after all—didn’t interest me, but it’s certainly worth going back for the dessert—and the ambiance!

On the weekends, Kingswood becomes a boppin’ bar that always seems pretty much packed to capacity. But, slip around the huddled crowds to the relatively spacious back area, and you’ll be able to grab a seat, a drink and, of course, a dessert.

If I had to work in any New York restaurant, it’d definitely be Kingswood, if only for the super fun staff. At one point when we were there, a bunch of waiters, who weren’t handling customers at the time, started an impromptu dance-off. The limiting food menu may be tough to deal with, but dance parties? I can definitely get behind that.

Bon appétit!
