It had felt like ages since I had a full weekend in the city — what with my vacation and going home for Mother’s Day — so I spent last weekend soaking up a typical New York weekend. First stop: brunch. (Second stop: street fair. And third stop: shopping.)

I headed to the West Village restaurant Good, aptly named considering good prices and a good menu.

What’s in it for you: Migas (scrambled eggs with tortillas, onions, peppers, cilantro and salsa); Mushroom, spinach and Gruyere omelet; Roasted red pepper, leek and cheddar omelet; Banana cream cheese stuffed toast; Lemon ricotta pancakes; Fresh fruit bowl with vanilla yogurt

What’s in it for them: Breakfast burrito (scrambled eggs, sausage, peppers, onions and jack cheese); Country frittata (bacon, potatoes, arugula and cheese); Biscuit with ham and jam; Egg sandwich (eggs, ham, cheddar and caramelized onions on a roll)

To start things off, there’s nothing like a refreshing fruit drink. On that particular day, the fresh juice drink du jour was watermelon-strawberry-mint. Um, amazing!

Then we went for the basil and goat cheese egg scramble and the vanilla buttermilk pancakes. Both were awesome, but the basil and goat cheese scramble has joined the ranks as one of my top brunch items.

That pesto was as fresh as the kinds I’ve had in Europe! Plus, the creaminess of the goat cheese and the slight runny-ness of the eggs made it almost like a great spread for the chewy sourdough bread.

I’m usually not a big citrus zest person, but the tinge of orange in the butter was divine. As far as the pancakes, they’re the only ones in the city that actually mimic the super-moist consistency of pancakes from Clinton Street Baking Company. It’s obviously buttermilk that does it, but Good’s version does it so right.
